Setting the Stage for Inclusion with Auri™ at Everyman Theatre

Location: Cheltenham, UK

As part of its long-standing commitment to accessibility, the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham has implemented a groundbreaking assistive listening solution powered by Auracast™. With support from the Barnwood Trust, the theatre became one of the first UK venues to install the Auri™ system from Ampetronic | Listen Technologies, delivering a transformative experience for audience members who are hard of hearing, or visually impaired.

Challenge

The Everyman Theatre hosts a range of accessible performances throughout the year, including audio-described, BSL-interpreted, captioned, and relaxed performances. However, for many patrons with hearing loss, traditional solutions either lacked compatibility with modern hearing aids or required complex setup and distribution. The theatre needed a more seamless, flexible, and inclusive audio system that could enhance the experience for hearing-impaired visitors without barriers.

Solution

Ampetronic | Listen Technologies provided a complete Auri™ system, using Auracast™ broadcast audio to wirelessly stream high-quality sound directly to hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, or smartphones. The installation included three AURI TX2N-D transmitters to broadcast the audio, supported by two AURI D16 docking stations for efficient charging and management, and 32 AURI RX1 receivers for patrons who may not have compatible personal devices. This system allows audience members to connect to the theatre’s audio stream as easily as joining a Wi-Fi network, combining cutting-edge accessibility with simple, user-friendly operation.

“We regularly hear from patrons who tell us these services are life changing. At a recent event, a guest shared that it was their first time back at the theatre since losing their sight, describing the experience as completely transformative for their wellbeing and social engagement. We thank the Barnwood Trust for their generous support for the new hearing system, meaning that we can continue to break down barriers and ensure live theatre is accessible to all.”  Francesca Goddard, Corporate Partnership Manager at the Everyman Theatre

Result

Since its installation, the Auri™ system has been described as “game changing.” It offers users an intuitive way to connect to performance audio, dramatically enhancing both accessibility and audience engagement. Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with patrons calling the services “life changing.” One guest, attending the theatre for the first time since losing their sight, shared that the experience was “completely transformative for their wellbeing and social engagement.”

With Auri™, the Everyman Theatre continues to set the standard for inclusive live entertainment—ensuring everyone can enjoy the magic of theatre, without compromise.
