Microphones for hearing loops

Assistive listening devices are designed to increase the ‘signal to noise ratio’ for their users. This is essential as it helps to amplify the specific sounds that the user wants to hear whilst simultaneously reducing background noise and acoustical distortion, leading to improved clarity and understanding.

There are numerous scenarios to consider when installing a hearing loop and one of those is the appropriate selection of and placement of microphone(s). A quality microphone situated in the correct place can be the difference between providing a genuine benefit to the end user/ person with hearing loss and an uncomfortable or frustrating listening experience.

It is summarised by a simple rule ‘Garbage in = Garbage out’.

For a more comprehensive guide and descriptions of each microphone type – you can access our ‘Microphone Selection For Hearing Loops’ white paper here.
